Aristocrat Picks Up Top Award at the G2E Global Gaming Awards

It has come to a point now in the gaming industry where the chance of Aristocrat walking away from a major awards ceremony empty handed is nigh on unthinkable. Australia’s greatest gaming expert kept to their winning ways this week by picking up one of the very top awards available at the highly prestigious G2E Global Gaming Awards. The award in question is Casino Product of the Year, which the developer received on the back of the success of their The Walking Dead poker machine.

We’ve mentioned on several occasions recently that branded pokies have been the way to go for many of the top developers currently, and this is evidenced not only by this win but also the fact that Microgaming scooped the equivalent online award for their Terminator 2 – Judgement Day pokie.

Aristocrat is of course a global powerhouse now as opposed to just a local Aussie company, and the fact that they beat off competition from every other single big name, including the likes of IGT and Bally, in order to pick up the prize, shows just how far they have come.

Indeed, the game’s success speaks for itself. In over sixty years of operation, covering both our domestic market and international operations, few of their titles have achieved such popularity so quickly. There are already more than 250 The Walking Dead poker machines in operation across North America and it continues to be not only the top selling cabinet but also, crucially for the casinos themselves, the best performing game when it comes to player activity.

Dallas Orchard, Aristocrat’s Vice President of Gaming Operations, commented on the game and the prize, saying: “The Walking Dead game has been an instant, incredible success with operators and players everywhere responding very positively to the game. We licensed the product as part of our commitment to operators to bring industry leading content to the casino floor and we are thrilled to be honoured in such a way for our efforts.”

Three features in the base game, which can see reels expanding or zombies attacking the reels to add further wild cards to the board are only the beginning of what players can expect on the pokie. There are just as many extra bonus features too, with the wheel of fortune style game being a particular highlight. Throw in a progressive jackpot prize that is seeded at an incredible $500,000 and you can see exactly why the game has proven to be such a hit!

As with most Aristocrat games, The Walking Dead will remain a land based exclusive for a while yet although is expected in Aussie casinos soon.
